Recently, we have not been, especially in the minor details. I have heard stories of people getting items confiscated at airprts, only to see the security people discarding them into a blue bin! do they know what is in that bottle? No, they don’t! and half the time, the bin is not payed attention to. You could just walk over and take back the potentially lethal substance. I do not believe Iran will fire a nuke at us, or even Russia or North Korea. If it happens, it will be a complete accident. one country misreads the other, fires a nuke, and the target retaliates. It is possible, but only slightly.

No, I believe that the way we will be nuked is by some fanatic who is able to sneak in through the border. It is likely that he would be a supporter of Iran, or North Korea whom is a native born South American. He will sneak across with the nuclear device, travel to a major city, and detonate it. this strike can easily be coordinated, perhaps thru coded conversation.

America needs to wake up! A nuclear strike is on its way as sure as winter comes before spring. We need to secure our borders, destroy the majority of our nukes, and make sure other countries do as well. The ability to destroy the world six times over is a power that no man should have! Before you answer them, it helps to take a quick time out and define what sin actually is.

Defining sin is simple: Sin is falling short of what God expects of us. The literal translation comes from the Greek word “hamartia” which, once translated, means “missing the mark” or sometimes “to depart” – specifically, to depart from God’s will for our lives. While defining sin is “easy”, effectively dealing with sin, is a totally different story.

I’m always somewhat amused by people who have created a “Hierarchy of Sins” as though one particular sin was worse than another.

What a foolish idea!

If you truly believe in the concepts of sin, salvation and justification, it’s hard to try and say that Jesus died any less for your little white lies than he did for that serial killer’s transgressions. Sin is sin.

We all do it. None of us, save Christ himself, is or ever will be immune to it.

Christians living in sin with partners who aren’t their husbands or wives try to feel better about themselves by pointing the finger of judgment of homosexuals living together in the closest thing to “matrimony” that they can.

Each tries to say that their own stance is the right stance, and it’s the other person who’s in the wrong.

The reality is: if they died today without asking for forgiveness for their sins, they’d both wind up in the same Hell.

Christians sins. Jewish people sin. Muslims sin. Pagans sin.

We’ve all got a code of ethics mandated to us, even Atheists (is it a sin when an Atheist prays to God in times of trouble?), and whenever we fall short of that level of living, we’re sinning.

On this side of the grave, NO ONE is going to lead a sinless life.

If we’d work a little harder at all admitting that we’re not perfect, instead of heaping pride on top of all the other sins, maybe we’d all be able to lead holier, happier lives…

Unfortunately, in the today’s society…it often takes more than one income to put bread on the table. As a result more an more families have both the mother and the father out in the trenches eking a living to support the family.

Well then, where does that leave our kids?
Unfortunately—just like the movie says… “Home Alone”.

It seems like only yesterday, when a family could get by comfortably on a single income.

But what about in today’s job market

Between the cost of inflation, the exploding rise of housing costs and Americas endless struggle to “keep up with the Jones”, its no wonder that the number of latchkey kids is growing. When you add in the growing trend of single parent families into the mix and its no wonder that many of our children are home alone for many hours until a parent gets home from work.

In the past worried parents would call their kids at home to see what they were up to. With the modern technology that is available today, parents may give their children their own personal cell phone. Unfortunately though, a mobile phone, while it will allow you to stay in contact with your kids…doesn’t exactly tell you WHERE your children are. This often tempts preteens and teens to go where they shouldn’t with people they shouldn’t because they can always concoct a story to tell their folks about where they have been and what they were doing.

What if there was a way to tell when your children arrived home from school…and when they decided to leave the house without your knowledge or permission for that matter.

A sniffy Story

As a parent of two girls with uncanny knack of curiosity, it’s very difficult to not have some kind of pet in the home. Where some may say a ferret is not good for children I would undeniably have to say otherwise.

A small white and brown creature rested in a cage with a couple who had two adult cats, a littler of kittens, and two dogs. This couple enjoyed animals in ways most people disapprove. The male of the couple is a man of no shame and has been known to horribly mutilate his animals, while the female sat idly by. As an animal lover, I saw this ferret stuffed in a cage, litter box unclean, barely food available and no way to get out and play. I feared for the creature but as any person in someone Else’s home didn’t say anything.

One day out of the blue My friend called me and asked if I could take the ferret. She told me how her boyfriend said they either had to get rid of it, or it would be laying on the side of some horrible outskirt half dead with no mercy around. Naturally my girls had been pestering me for several months to get another animal, but landlords are picky these days. I asked her to give me time to talk to my landlord and I may take the animal.

The landlord said that as long as I cared for it, since it was a caged animal, I could take him in. Now I’ve never owned a ferret and the closest I’d ever come was watching other people have them and let them run rampant amongst homes not suited for them. My greatest fear is being unable to properly care for the guy. So I did my research on several sites when I got him, went to stores to purchase his needs and set him on a schedule for play time with the girls and me.

I have never seen an animal so curious of everything! As he sniffed his way over every detail of my closed off living room my six year old watched wide eyed and then looked straight at me and said “His name is Sniffy” I let her give the name and Sniffy was where it stood. This one year old boy was such an interesting task. I couldn’t believe how he got under my computer desk, or how he managed to get into the tiniest of places.

His favorite game is chase. The girls adore this game, and so sets off our first adventure…

Sniffy sneaks up to my unsuspecting six year old while she is at the table coloring. Her bare feet swaying back and forth. Sniffy leaps onto one, and she squeals with delight that he has paid her attention and falls out of the chair. Sniffy put his two front legs out in front of him, his tail stands on edge waiting with anticipation of the girls move. She laughs and yells “Sniffy, I’m gonna get you.” He bolts from under the table. She gets on her feet and stomps after him with pleasure. He ducked behind our couch and my six year old pokes her head in and makes faces at him, then bolts around the corner to see if he comes out. Of course Sniffy bolts out from behind the couch, rolls to one side and looks straight at her, temptation…again she stomps after him and he recoils with his chirping fun back behind the couch. She recedes to her hiding place and waits, but Sniffy does not come out. Now i have a huge sectional couch that he plays behind regularly. So as my daughter waited rather impatiently for the fuzzy creature, he ran around to the other side of the couch and sneaked out and walked lazily up behind her then pounced right onto her back! She jumped and squealed again with laughter and let him roll off to the floor before continuing the game.

They played for a long time this way before both became bored and started playing with a bag on the floor instead…but that is another adventure…

The history of shoe wear has always been filled with the elegantly beautiful to the painful and hideous. Every decade retains a symbol of what fashionable people considered appropriate footwear that epitomized that moment in history. Even with the passage of time, we seem to imagine the connection these styles had on the person wearing them. Sometimes, we wonder as we search annals of historical fashion, “What were they thinking?” and laugh at the person who thought they were styling. Yet, we forget our own fashion mishaps in the process, including the choices we made concerning what we put on our feet. One decade in my life history that I remember quite well is the 1980s.

Anyone who grew up in the 80s knows that the decade was the fashion police’s worst nightmare. From the stiffness of the Aqua Net hair to the balls of our feet, it was a hodgepodge of fashion mistakes. Yet, we begged our parents for the trends worn by musicians on MTV or by the Cosby kids. Looking back, however, we see how ridiculous some of the clothes really appeared. Footwear also experienced the hazards associated with fashion, producing some of the worst shoe trends of the decade. The most popular shoe trends in the 80s were hi-top sneakers designed by Reebok and Converse and Adidas athletic footwear.

In general, hi-tops differentiated themselves from more traditional sneakers because they extended above the ankle and laced all the way to the top. Many individuals used them for athletic activities because of the extra support on the ankles. However, they increasingly became a popular, non-athletic fashion statement. Some people even wore their hi-tops tied lower than the ankle with the tongue of the shoe sticking out or not tied at all.

Nevertheless, Reebok and Converse had a few notable differences. Reeboks were constructed with the same rubbery material as traditional sneakers. However, they came with a Velcro fastener at the ankle. Of course, the Reebok logo was emblazoned on the side of each shoe. On the other hand, Converse shoes were made of canvas material, having a similar feel to jeans. They didn’t have the Velcro at the ankle but laced all the way up. They came in a multitude of colors. The logo on the side of the shoe resembled a multicolored star in a white circle. The canvas material was good only for casual wear.

Adidas completed the trivecta of sneakers in the 80s. Most people wore the blindingly white Adidas that rarely matched anything. They were pretty bland compared to their counterparts. They had a thick sole that made the wearer look a bit awkward when wearing them.

As ugly as these shoes were, they remained important because of how they became part of pop culture. Sneakers, in particular, became a symbol of hip-hop culture. Rappers wrote songs about hi-top shoes. Run DMC sang a song praising sneakers called “My Adidas” and continued to wear these shoes in a number of their music videos. Madonna and Cyndi Lauper made it cool to wear canvas shoes with a dress. Thus, the culture of shoe hierarchy began.

Bad shoe trends come and go. Many of the fashioned of the 80s have returned in the new millennium. Yet, if you are feeling misty-eyed about your youth, don’t be tempted to return to these kicks. The rule of all fashion, including shoes is, “If you remember wearing I the first time, you shouldn’t wear it the second time around.”
